Dave Nordstrom - Muskegon Campus Life Director
My name is Dave Nordstrom and I am a West Michigan Youth For Christ Director in Muskegon. I grew up in Muskegon, first in the Muskegon Heights area, then in the Norton Shores area and graduated from Mona Shores High School. I began my interest in youth work as I watched the Youth Pastor of our church work with teenagers. He really inspired my into the work. I began my first youth job thru a college internship at a church in Muskegon, at age 19, working with junior highers. I attended Grand Rapids Baptist College, currently known as Cornerstone University. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a Major in Sociology and minors in Bible and Psychology, in 1979. Carole and I met my senior year, and her freshman year, we married after I graduated and moved to Denver, Colorado for our first youth ministry job, working with junior highers.
We’ve worked in a variety of venues with youth, including working with mentally handicapped teens, church teens, teens in group homes and lock-up facilities. We eventually ended up working for Youth For Christ in 1984 in Durham, North Carolina. After 5 years we transferred to Youth For Christ in Muskegon in 1989, where we began our family and are currently serving. Because of a battle with cancer I had, we were unable to have biological children, so over the years we adopted 3 girls. We also have 3 grand children.
As far as my family background, I am the second oldest of 5 children. The first born died as an infant, which I guess pretty much puts me at the oldest. My parents have both graduated into eternity with Jesus and I have 1 brother, who is the youngest and 2 sisters in the middle.
Carole and I attend CrossWinds Fellowship church in North Muskegon. We’ve been involved there for about 18 years. We’ve been Fill-Ins for running the youth group in between youth pastors. We currently serve in that capacity and are developing a team of volunteer leaders to help work with the teens.
